Correction of Probe Pressure Artifacts in Freehand 3 D Ultrasound — Initial Results
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present an algorithm which combines non-rigid image-based registration and conventional position sensing to correct probe-pressure-induced registration errors in freehand three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound volumes. The local accuracy of image-based registration enables the accurate freehand acquisition of high resolution (> 15MHz) 3D ultrasound data, opening the way for 3D musculoskeletal examinations. External position sensor readings guarantee the large-scale positional accuracy of the data. The algorithm is shown to increase both the clarity and accuracy of reslices through in vivo volumetric data sets.

Correction of Probe Pressure Artifacts in Freehand 3 D Ultrasound — Further Results and Convex Probes
An algorithm has been presented in [5] which combines non-rigid image-based registration and conventional position sensing to correct probe-pressure-induced registration errors in free-hand three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound volumes. Visual results indicated that the algorithm increased both the clarity and accuracy of reslices through in vivo volumetric data sets. These initial findings are ver...
متن کاملRF and amplitude-based probe pressure correction for 3D ultrasound.
Anatomical deformation caused by variable probe contact pressure is a significant problem in freehand 3D ultrasound, particularly for high resolution musculoskeletal and breast scans. We have previously published an amplitude-based algorithm for correcting such errors. In this paper, we compare this approach with a novel, elastography-inspired algorithm which works with the higher resolution ra...
متن کامل3 D ultrasound examination of large organs
Freehand 3D ultrasound is particularly appropriate for the measurement of organ volumes. For small organs, which can be fully examined with a single sweep of the ultrasound probe, the results are known to be much more accurate than those using conventional 2D ultrasound. However, large or complex shaped organs are difficult to quantify in this manner because multiple sweeps are required to cove...
متن کامل3-D ultrasonic strain imaging using freehand scanning and a mechanically-swept probe.
This paper compares 2 approaches to 3-D ultrasonic axial strain imaging: a tracked ultrasound probe swept manually over a volume, and a mechanically-swept 3-D probe. We find that high-quality data are more easily obtained using the 3-D probe, but the freehand approach may be more practical in certain scanning situations.
متن کاملFreehand ultrasound elastography with a 3-D probe.
This paper presents the first near-real-time freehand ultrasound elastography system using a (3-D) mechanical probe. Acquisition is complete within two sec, and only an additional 20 sec are required for generation of a full 3-D strain volume. The strain is axial, with estimates of lateral and elevational tissue movement used to increase the accuracy of the axial strain measurement. This is the...
